Actor Kit Harington–aka Jon Snow on HBO’s fantasy-adventure series “Game of Thrones” stopped by the Wall Street Journal yesterday to do a video interview with the Journal’s Marshall Crook and Jennifer Krieger.While Harington was here, we posed some of the questions you sent to us on Speakeasy and on Twitter. Here are some of his answers.
–Bobby Miller (@Thehashtagbob) asked “what’s working with all the horses and filming scenes on horseback like, especially in costume? Adrenaline? Bonding? Saddle sores?” Harington said that all the riding can be a challenge, and that “Game of Thrones” cast members were put through a horse riding training camp before the start of the first season and the second. But, he said, in the current season, he’s only had to ride a horse once. “So what was all the horse training for?” he laughed.
–Lisa (@joyinlaughter) asked “Did he have a stunt double for some of the scenes filmed on the glacier or did he do them all himself?” Harington said the sequences that were filmed on a glacier in Iceland were all him–except during a crucial scene in which his character rolls down a snowbank. Smiling, Harington said “I’ve been telling people it’s all me. But in the scene where I look the best, it’s someone else!” Harington spoke fondly of his interplay with actress Rose Leslie (who plays the wildling Ygritte), especially the scene in which the two spoon in the snow to keep warm. He said it was so cold, the actors didn’t want to separate. “This is the warmest I’ve been in days!” he said he told the crew.
–Rob Hill wrote “Do the actors have information on what will happen to their characters in the upcoming books “The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring”?” Harrington played coy on what he knows or doesn’t know about “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin’s coming books. “I don’t want to know what happens to Jon in those final books!” Harington said.
